MississippiMississippi is a southern state that gets its name from the great Mississippi River that flows along its western border. The state is well known for its catfish aquaculture, producing the majority of farm-raised catfish that are consumed all over the United States. The southern coast falls into the Gulf of Mexico providing beautiful beaches and water excitement. The state is also bordered by many other southern states including Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Alabama.

Jackson, the state capital and largest city, sits in the middle of the state. Jackson Zoological Park was founded in 1919 and is home to all kinds of animals in exhibits from countries all over the world. The zoo also showcases many local Mississippi animals such as river otters, cougars, black bears, and beavers in beautiful new habitats. The Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum located in the heart of the city is a 40 acre complex that educates visitors about the state’s agriculture history. Visitors can also learn about farm life in the state from the early 1800s. The Russell C. Davis planetarium and Ronald E. McNair Space Theater is the best way to see the universe in Mississippi. The planetarium has a star projection system that showcases the skies as it appears from any location on Earth. The space theater features IMAX style films that the whole family will enjoy from nature films to popular family films.

A visit to the coast will bring all kinds of fun and adventure. Take the family on a shrimping trip in Biloxi. Visitors will learn about shrimping, experience an adventure, and be entertained throughout the cruise. The Living Marine Adventure Cruise has been operating for over 50 years and visitors will definitely leave with a tasty seafood treat. The Gulf Islands Waterpark in Gulfport is a fun stop featuring miles of wet and wild fun in a wave pool, slides, lazy river, and much more. The Lynn Meadows Discovery Center is definitely a stop for the little ones. The delightful museum features all kinds of exhibits in an old renovated schoolhouse.
