Massachusetts Massachusetts, known as the “Bay State,” is located in the New England region of the United States. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and surrounded by states on all other sides. Most of the population lives in Boston, the capital and largest city, or its metropolitan area but the whole state has many attractions that will interest visitors of all ages.

The Cape Cod Peninsula, Nantucket Island, and Martha’s Vineyard Island boast miles of pure sandy beaches on the eastern tail end of the state. This area is a very popular getaway for wealthy families living in large cities in New England and it is a beautiful place to tour. Lighthouses line the shore along with one-of-a-kind resorts, bed & breakfasts, and rental houses for a unique way to stay.

In central Massachusetts, the EcoTarium is an indoor outdoor museum in Worcester. Children will love exploring exhibits showcasing science and nature. The urban museum gives visitors a chance to explore the galaxy, walk through the treetops, and learn all about wildlife. The Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge takes visitors back to a simpler time where imagination runs the world. Kids can work in the farmhouse, barn, or the general store to learn what it was like to live in the 1800s.

Boston is the home to many museums to explore including the unique Mary Baker Eddy Library showcasing the life of a famous New England woman. The Museum of Fine Arts showcases masterpieces from all over the world. The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum holds the history of the 35th president of the United States to experience the 1960s. The Concord Museum in Concord west of Boston is the site of the battle that began the American Revolution. American history comes to life in the museum and through the historic sites throughout the town.

Massachusetts is full of fun from big city Boston to the fancy peninsula and islands around Cape Cod to small towns dotting the state.
