When people think of paradise, Hawaii vacations come to mind, and rightly so.
This collection of islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is both beautiful and exotic.
Created out of fire from the midst of the earth, Hawaii is shrouded in both mystery and legend. Locals point to the islands as the work of Pele, the goddess of fire. Legend teaches that she tried to find a suitable home on each of the eight islands, but found none until she finally settled on the Island of Hawaii.
Hawaii is the largest of the eight islands and offers the most dynamic scenery. From the gorgeous black sand beaches to the barren heights of the massive shield volcanoes, the "Big Island" offers families plenty to explore. On either side of the island, you'll find historic villages like Hilo which have a storied past worth exploring.
Maui is one of the most famous Hawaii vacation destinations. Both honeymooners and families looking for an exotic getaway flock to Maui each year. On one end of hte island, you will find the magnificant Haleakala Crater, or Valley of the Sun. Beautiful sunrises are celebrated every day at the summit of this natural wonder. On the opposite end of the island, you'll find the Iao Valley. This historic valley is the site of a very bloody battle from years past, which has a mystique of its own and adds to the mystery of the island.
The Island of Oahu is the most popular island vacation destination. Honolulu is the largest city in the islands and makes for a beautiful setting along the Pacific Ocean. Waikiki Beach is on the minds of most visitors to the islands and there is good reason. The scenery is nearly always postcard quality and the swimming wonderful. Diamondhead, an ancient volcano, makes an excellent touch to the island's scenery.
There is certainly much more to see and do on Hawaii vacations. Kuaui, the Garden Island is an Island Paradise of its own. Molokai, Lanai, and the other tiny islands complete the chain.
