Traveling with children on the Costa del Sol

Whether you are traveling with children or just a big kid yourself, the Costa del Sol offers everything you could wish for on a family holiday..

The Costa del Sol is a year round resort but for the best weather to take advantage of all the outdoor activities visit between early May and late September, avoiding August when the whole coast is very crowded and very hot..

There are miles of clean, sandy beaches that are gently shelving into the Med so ideal for smaller children. The usual beach activities are on offer such as pedal boats, banana boat rides, para gliding, etc and from Benalmadena, Fuengirola and Puerto Banus there are boat trips including glass bottomed boats, sailing yachts, speed boats and pirate ships.
Following the water theme there are excellent water parks in Torremolinos, better for older children and teenagers, and Fuengirola which is ideal for all the family.

If its animals you’re after try the fantastic Selwo Safari Park in Estepona, the Zoo in Fuengirola , Selwo Marina or the Sea Life Centre in Benalmadena or the Crocodile Park in Torremolinos.
Horse riding is also available away from the coast around the beautiful Andalucian countryside.
Either hire a car or book a day excursion to Gibraltar and you can visit the very cheeky monkeys on the Rock.

For the more adventurous visit the Marbella Gun and Country Club where you can go quad bike racing, go on a 4 x 4 tour or take part in clay pidgeon shooting, air rifle shooting or archery and they even have a swimming pool if you just want to sit back and relax.

If you do visit out of season or the weather is a little cooler than anticipated there are several cinemas that offer films in English, some great shopping malls and several 10 pin bowling centres to keep everyone amused until the sun shines again.
Car hire is advisable if you want to explore the region but not essential if you just want to visit resorts along the coast as there is an excellent rail service from Malaga City to Fuengirola plus a good network of buses.

If you are traveling with older children there are many day trips to choose from including Ronda, with it’s stunning views over the Tajo Gorge, Granada, with it’s Alhambra Palace, Seville, with it’s Cathedral and river and Cordoba, with it’s famous Arabic Mosque to name but a few.

In Spain and in particular in Andalucia, children always accompany their parents to restaurants and bars so evening entertainment here is geared towards families.
Try the various quiz nights, bingo or karaoke or go and see one of the many flamenco shows. Many bars also offer live music and entertainers
